Stage Stories; Faction Presents: 001 Live Review

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

On Wednesday night I attended the first of Faction Music's showcase nights in Workman's Cellar, Dublin, where some of the brightest up and coming artists shone through their live performances that took the audience by storm.

Seán Joyce was the first act to take the stage that night, and he immediately captured the crowd's attention with his authentic, heartfelt lyrics that resonated with them. The crowd were in awe of his talent; he's the kind of artist who can make you stop in your tracks with his music. Seán's songs are deeply emotional, drawing inspiration from artists like Bon Iver while also incorporating a pop sound reminiscent of The 1975.

If you haven't already, give Seán's debut single, While You Were Out, a listen! It's just the beginning of his journey, and it's a taste of what's to come from this rising star. You can find his single on Spotify and all major streaming platforms- don't miss out!

Next to take the stage we saw Dublin's own Just Wondering. This talented trio made up of best friends Jack, Wale and Adam, delivered a soulful performance filled with catchy pop-electronic tunes. Their tunes payed tribute to their hometown, Dublin, and was flavoured with that unique Irish humour you can't find anywhere else. Just Wondering's lively exploration of self-expression, their willingness to experiment, and the strong bond between the three of them truly sets them apart in the ever-changing music industry.

During their set at the cellar, they played some crowd favourites and even treated the audience to a cover of Someday by The strokes, which really got everyone going. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Just Wondering released their debut single, Drive, and have been consistently delivering hit songs. It's clear that Just Wondering is just beginning their exciting musical journey, so keep an eye out for more from these talented musicians.

As the night drew to a close the final act, Still Blue, took to the stage, promising to deliver an unforgettable conclusion to an incredible evening. Still Blue are a Dublin based indie pop band featuring Nicole Lyons on vocals, Ruairi Forde on guitar, Greg Kearns on drums, and Frank O'Flaherty on bass.

Nicoles enchanting voice and heartfelt lyrics struck a chord with the audience, delivering a powerful performance that had everyone dancing to their infectious indie tunes. As the night neared its end, the crowd was treated to one more song before heading home.

Still Blue made a splash in the music scene earlier this year with their debut EP, All Over The Chip Shop, and they continue to make waves in the industry.

This showcase night highlighted the genuine raw talent and energy we have right here on this small island, and Faction deserves high praise for their exceptional work in promoting these emerging artists through this series.
