Soundtracks uncovered: A Review of Moncrieff's Love Somebody

Hailing from Waterford, rising Irish singer-songwriter Moncrieff has just released a most powerful single, Love Somebody, ahead of his upcoming Debut Album later this year.

Following his much deserved win of the RTÉ Choice music Prize for Irish Song of the Year 2023 with his single, Warm (2022), Mocrieff has come back with his latest single, Love Somebody, the first off his debut Album, a catchy, albeit sad tune about expressing the love for those around us as often as we can.

"You have her heart in your hand, it's your chance, don't make the same mistake that I made". In his second-ever love song, with Warm preceding it, Moncrieff brings to light the feeling of loving someone but only realising that you loved them after watching them walk away. He emphasises how life is too short not to tell someone how you truly feel in this incredibly catchy tune. This is a feeling that we all experience at one point or another, making it the perfect heartbreak song to blare in the shower, or to add to those roadtrip playlists where crying is on top of the agenda.

Using music as a coping mechanism for some of the hardest times in his life, Chris Breheny, aka Moncrieff, writes from the purest of places conveying the most flawless honesty and incrementing some of the most powerful and relevant lyrics seen in the pop industry today.

Having previously seen Moncrieff in multiple live settings across the country, and having had the privilege of hearing Love Somebody as an unreleased single at Sea Sessions earlier this summer, I was personally awaiting this new single and it certainly did not disappoint. Moncrieff writes from the depths of his heart, giving the listener an intimate look at who he is and making each song as relatable as the last.

Moncrieff has an exciting year ahead of him with his Debut Album on the horizon as well as a tour around Europe and the UK to round off the year.

Be sure to check out Moncrieff's latest single, Love Somebody, available to stream on all platforms from the 28th of July.
